A Cool and Restful Sleep
It´s no surprise that portable air conditioning units are becoming increasingly popular. At home, they help ensure a restful night´s sleep, and at the workplace, they keep you cool and focused.
It you´re considering purchasing or renting a portable air conditioner, it´s important to choose a unit that´s appropriate for the size of your room. Below, we offer some guidelines to help you make an informed decision.
Calculating the Cooling Capacity
To determine which air conditioner is right for your room size, you need to understand the cooling capacity required, also known as the cooling load. This capacity is usually measured in watts (W) or kilowatts (kW). While watt is more commonly used, we´ll provide both measurements throughout this guide.
Here are two simple formulas to calculate the cooling capacity needed for your room:
1. For well-insulated rooms with little sunlight:
- Room size in m2 x 60
2. For poorly insulated rooms with lots of sunlight:
- Room size in m2 x 100
Which AC Unit for 40 sqm?
To cool a 40 square meter room efficiently, you’ll need an air conditioner with 2,400 watts (2.4 kW) of power if the room is well-insulated and doesn’t get much sunlight.
If the insulation is poor and the room gets a lot of sunlight, you’ll need an AC unit with 4,000 watts (4 kW) of power.
For the first scenario, our Monoblock units MK1, MK2, and MK3 are ideal. In the second scenario, our Split unit MKS7 is a great choice.
Which AC Unit for 60 sqm?
For a 60 square meter room that is well-insulated and has minimal sun exposure, a unit with 3,600 watts (3.6 kW) of cooling power is recommended. Our Monoblock unit MK4 is perfect for this setup.
However, if the room has poor insulation and is exposed to direct sunlight, you’ll need 6,000 watts (6 kW) of cooling power.
Which AC Unit for 100 sqm?
A 100 square meter room can be efficiently cooled with an air conditioner that provides 6,000 watts (6 kW) of cooling power, assuming the room is well-insulated and not exposed to direct sunlight.
If the room is poorly insulated and receives a lot of sunlight, you should look for a unit with 10,000 watts (10 kW) of cooling power.

Quick Reference Guide
The table below provides a quick reference for determining the appropriate cooling capacity for different room sized under varying conditions. Keep in mind that these values represent the extremes – either well-insulated rooms with little sunlight or poorly insulated rooms with high sunlight exposure. If your space falls somewhere in between, it´s a good idea to consult with a professional before purchasing or renting an air conditioning unit. Contact us for personalized advice!
