Central Air Conditioning Systems
A central air conditioning system is a unit without an outdoor component, consisting of a single module that handles both intake and exhaust air. There are mobile and permanently installed central air conditioning systems.
Mobile Central Air Conditioners/Monoblock Units
A monoblock or single unit air conditioner is a portable unit that consist of a single device. It draws in warm air through one opening and expels it through another via a hose that typically extends through a window or door. A refrigerant cools the air by extracting heat from it, then returns the cooled air to the room.
A monoblock air conditioner is ideal if you need a temporary, hassle-free cooling solution and have place to position an exhaust hose.
Permanently Installed Central Air Conditioners
A permanently installed central air conditioning system uses a single device to manage both intake and exhaust air, often referred to as a “central air handling unit” or “central ventilation system.” It distributes cooled air to various rooms through a network of ducts.
Decentralized Air Conditioning Systems
Decentralized air conditioning systems consist of two separate units. These systems are available in both mobile and permanently installed versions.
Mobile Decentralized Air Conditioners/Split Units
A mobile split air conditioner features two units: one inside and one outside. The two units are connected by a refrigerant line. The indoor unit removes heat from the room, and the outdoor unit releases it outside.
This type of air conditioner is recommended it you require high cooling performance and don´t have the option to place an exhaust hose.
Permanently Installed Decentralized Air Conditioners
These systems also consist of an indoor and outdoor unit. They operate similarly to mobile split systems but are permanently installed. The indoor unit extracts heat from the room, which is then carried through a refrigerant line to the outdoor unit, where it´s released into the surrounding environment.
It´s best to consider installing a decentralized air conditioning system during the construction phase of a building, as installation later requires significant work. For those not wanting to undertake renovations, a mobile split system is a more practical choice.

Chillers are large-scale, permanently installed decentralized systems, often placed on rooftops.
